This is the story of Willie, a man who, in his 60's, lived in an affordable housing apartment community that was run down and had excessively expensive electricity bills. And this is the story of how Willie, and the residents of 71 other apartments in that community were able to live in newly renovated apartments that were now truly affordable because when the owners renovated the property, they chose to use the EarthCraft Multifamily Renovation strategy.
Today, I want to share with you how the EarthCraft Multifamily (ECMF) process works. The EarthCraft program manual calls for 17 steps for the Project Process. They are the 17 steps that ECMF Developers and Technical Advisors (TA’s) must follow to certify ECMF projects. I am going to add an 18th step. By creating 18 steps, I will divide this into 3 parts covering six of the steps. Please note: some portions of this are directly taken from the EarthCraft Guidelines. These are the first six steps.
Today, we will look at the second part of how the EarthCraft Multifamily (ECMF) process works. The EarthCraft program manual calls for 17 steps for the Project Process. As discussed in the previous section, I added my own step to create an 18th (which was added at the beginning). This second part of the ECMF process will cover actual steps 6-11. Again, portions of this description are pulled directly from the latest EarthCraft Multifamily Manual.
This time, we will look at the third part of how the EarthCraft Multifamily (ECMF) process works. This part of the ECMF process will cover steps 12-17. This will cover the Pre-Drywall Inspection Submittal through the final Certification.
The design review is one of the early steps in the process of building for either EarthCraft Certification or ENERGY STAR® Qualification. Actually, it is really required for all “green” building programs in one form or another (or under one name or another). So, as I discuss the design review, my primary focus will be following the method used with EarthCraft since that is the primary focus of work performed by Synergy Custom Services.
