Cherokee Mill Lofts

Cherokee Mill Lofts offers new, affordable housing for families, with a variety of one-, two-, and three-bedroom apartments. Located at 305 McConnell Road in Calhoun, Georgia, this project was built inside the historic building of the old Ojay Mills, which was once a major employer in Gordon County. The owner of the property is Landmark Property Management Company, and the General Contractor is Rehab Builders, both located in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.

Cherokee Mill Lofts offers several benefits to the local community. Firstly, this 110,000 square foot building provides 60 beautifully constructed units that are highly energy efficient. Secondly, the restoration and clean-up of the building have enhanced the beauty of this area of Calhoun. Thirdly, the historic building has been preserved, which is significant as it is located in a prime area of western Calhoun and is a landmark seen by all who pass through the area.

The building's history adds to its charm, but there are also several other features that make Cherokee Mill Lofts a unique and attractive place to live. The exterior of the building has been restored to its former glory, resembling the building during its heyday as one of Calhoun's leading employers. The interior of the apartments have a modern "home" feel, with finished wood and carpeted floors in some rooms, modern kitchens and baths, high-efficiency heat pumps, and water heaters. At the same time, the apartments retain some of the old "factory" look with large windows, concrete floors in some rooms, industrial style interior lighting, and fully exposed air duct systems. In addition to the restoration, the property has earned EarthCraft Multifamily certification, emphasizing resource efficiency and energy-efficient systems, making it friendly to the local environment.
